ST. MARY TEST RESULTS

St. Mary Treated Water Safe to Drink

The treated water from the District’s St. Mary Lake distribution system contains no toxin and is safe to drink.

The Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality set the maximum acceptable concentration for total microcystin (toxin) in drinking water at 1.5 micrograms/L .

The most recent results of laboratory tests for cyanobacterial toxins in the NSSWD St. Mary Lake system are:

2018

September

  • September 18th, 2018: No toxin was detected in the treated water; 0.036 ug/L of microcystin-LA toxin and 0.98 ug/L of cylindrospermopsin was detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • September 10th, 2018: No toxin was detected in the treated water; 0.031 ug/L of microcystin-LA toxin and 1.07 ug/L of cylindrospermopsin was detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • September 4th, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and 0.08 ug/L of total microcystin toxin detected in the raw, untreated water.

August

  • August 27, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and 0.033 ug/L of total microcystin toxin detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • August 23, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and 0.07 ug/L of total microcystin toxin detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • August 20, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and 0.045 ug/L of total microcystin toxin detected in the raw, untreated water.

July

  • July 30th, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and 0.13 ug/L of total microcystin toxin detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • July 23rd, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and no toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • July 16th, 2018: No toxin detected in the treated water and no toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water.
  • July 4th, 2018: Trace levels of toxin were detected in the raw, untreated water. The treated water was not tested. Due to the toxin detected and the high numbers of cyanobacterial cells in the raw water, both the raw and treated water from NSSWD intakes will be tested for toxin weekly until further notice.

June

  • June 4th, 2018: No toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water. The treated water was not tested.

  • May 8th, 2018: No toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water. The treated water was not tested.

  • April 9th, 2018: No toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water. The treated water was not tested.

  • February 7th, 2018: The treated water was not tested and no toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water.

  • January 8th, 2018: The treated water was not tested and 0.08 ug/L of total microcystin toxin was detected in the raw, untreated water.
